The purpose of 211 is to assist people: to get help, to give help, to volunteer, and to donate through our community’s organizations.

The 211 Information and
Referral Line connects people
with needed human services through an easy to remember
three-digit phone number.
211
is also available on the web, access it online at:

When someone calls 211,
specially trained information
and referral call agents analyze what services are needed
and provide the appropriate resource and related information,
such as the organization’s name, address, phone number, and
services.
In
the Floyd County 211 Database there are listings for
approximately 150 non-profits, community organizations,
governmental agencies, and ministries.
For
example 211 can offer access to the following types
of services: Basic Human Needs: food banks, clothes
closets, rent and utility assistance, and shelters.
Physical and Mental Health Resources:
pre-natal and maternal
health, free health clinic, crisis intervention
services, support
groups, counseling, alcohol and drug intervention and
rehabilitation.
Employment Supports: Job training, and
education programs,
literacy, GED, English as a Second Language.
Support for Senior Adults and Persons with Disabilities:
Adult day care, aging services, respite and home health care, and
transportation.
Support for Children and Youth: child care,
after schools programs, mentoring, tutoring, summer camps and recreation
programs, and protective services.
Volunteer and Donation opportunities
through the United Way
and 17 member United Way agencies and numerous
other
community organizations.
Emergency Preparedness: The 211 mission in
times of disaster
is to provide emergency assistance-support. This covers all phases of an emergency:
prevention, planning, response, and recovery.
The public may look to the 211 Call Center
for information on
shelter, clothing, food, water, ice, rumor control,
locations for applications for disaster assistance, opportunities to
volunteer services and to donate blood and financial assistance.
