“THE BIBLE”

by Phil Brewster

The Bible is not just one book but actually sixty-six books, which were written over hundreds of years by a number of people. It was compiled into the written form, as we know it, about 1, 200 years ago.

It is understood by many to be God speaking to us through the encounters of the authors with Him. Because of this it is known as God’s Word.

The Bible, in it’s sixty-six books, gives us a simplified story of the Creation as it was originally; what happened to the Creation after the fall; God’s plan to redeem the Creation and finally it speaks of the fulfillment of that plan describing what the Creation will be like then.

It is an overall picture of our past, present and future…and thus is described as the most important “book” (group of books) that we can read today. It answers or leads us to the answer to most of the questions raised in our search for truth.

Let’s take a capsule look at the picture it reveals.

First God created the heavens, earth, the plants, the animals, man and woman; and the Bible says it was good (Genesis 1 & 2). Then in Genesis 3, “man” disobeyed God and was removed from his immediate presence. This disobedience not only caused corruption (sin) in man but also in the rest of creation, thus we have experienced both good and evil in this life from that day to this.

Because God loved us too much to let us exist in this condition for eternity, He developed a plan to restore (redeem) His Creation from the corruption caused by sin through disobedience on our part to its original state of perfection.

From Genesis 4 to the end of The Revelation To John, we see how God’s plan was initiated and progresses to its fulfillment. When you compare the descriptions of the creation in Genesis 1 & 2 with those in Revelation 21 & 22 you will see that the effects of sin have been eliminated and once again the creation is good and at peace with God our Creator. We are told that in His World this restoration will last for eternity.

Can you think of anything more relevant to our world today?

This redemption is available free to anyone who will receive and believe in Jesus (John 3:16). Listen to His invitation in Matthew 11: 28-30:

“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me for; I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
(NRSV)

If you feel His call, act on it…then you will find His plan is being fulfilled for you. Today we live in a time prior to Revelation 21 but His plan of redemption for you is available now and has been since the resurrection of Christ.  Your Bible will “fill you in” on the details…IT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT BOOK YOU WILL EVER ENCOUNTER.
