“The
Importance of Genesis 3” Genesis
1 and 2 tells us that when God created the Earth and Heavens and all
that is there in, it was good. So why do we experience so many bad
things in this life? In
Genesis 3, we read how sin and corruption came into our world through
our own disobedience. We
essentially gave Satan a deed to our property and ourselves and because
of this the whole creation was corrupted.
God had warned against this when He said “If you eat of this
fruit (the tree of knowledge of good and evil) you shall surely die.”
So now we experience death - both physical and spiritual. But
God, who created us and loves us, designed a plan to redeem us from our
sin of disobedience. His
plan is not only for us but for His whole creation.
Rather than snap His finger and do away with sin, He chooses to
walk with us through the redemption process; to give us a chance to aid
in the process, as well as to have a choice of which way we go and
finally, through Christ, to eliminate entirely sin and its holdover us. Understanding
this gives us an answer to the questions we often have of why God did
this or why God allows that. The
answer is that it was us not God who bears this responsibility. Becoming
a Christian does not eliminate all the problems of this life. It gives us what we need to overcome them with God’s help
and to obtain eternal redemption and forgiveness for our sins. So
the real purpose in life is to be redeemed and reconciled to God for
eternity. The alternative
is frightening. “Ho,
everyone who thirsts, come to the waters.
And you who have no money come buy and eat.
Come buy wine and milk without money or cost. Seek the Lord while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near.” (Isaiah 55:1,6) Phil Brewster
