“The River of Grace”

By: Phil Brewster

If you look up the word “Grace” in the dictionary you will find several meanings given. Theologically speaking, grace is defined as…God’s unmerited love for us. When we come to Christ our spirit is brought to life by the indwelling of His Spirit, as described in John 7:38, “He who believes in Me, from his inner being shall flow rivers of living water”, a river of grace so to speak.

Again, in Isaiah 58:11, “And you will be like a well watered garden and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.”

This River is mentioned again in The Revelation to John, 22.6; “ I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life.” And in; 22: 1 & 17; “And He showed to me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb…”  … “The Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come’. And let everyone who hears say, ‘Come’. And let everyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift.”

Back in the 70’s or 80’s David and Max Sapp wrote a song entitled “There is a River”…This is the Chorus to that song:

“There is a river that flows from God above.

There is a fountain that’s filled with His great Love.

Come to this water, there is a vast supply.

There is a river that never shall run dry.”

The “River” is the song and in the scriptures is The River of Grace, the Holy Spirit, along with God’s love. It is available to all…here and now!
